Before the formalities of the conference begin on Tuesday, reacquaint yourself with old friends and make some new ones as the delegates come together for light refreshments on Monday evening in the Exhibition Hall.

Early Career Geoscientist Networking Event

Date: Monday 2 September
Venue: The Camfield

The Early Career Geoscientist Networking Evening is shaping up to be one of the biggest geoscience community social events in 2019. The Evening will be held on Monday the 2nd of September at Australia’s largest pub, The Camfield. The Early Career Geoscientist Networking Evening will capitalise on the preceding and proximal AEGC Welcome Icebreaker (Crown Perth). A courtesy shuttle will be organised to regularly run between Burswood Station, Crown Perth, and The Camfield during the Evening.

Undergraduate, early career, and established geoscientists are encouraged to attend the Early Career Geoscientist Networking Evening, meet and share experiences, all the while enjoying all-inclusive drinks and a casual meal.

Pinnacles and Wildflowers

The wildflower collection in Western Australia is the largest on Earth. With more than 12,000 species, over 60% of which are found nowhere else on Earth, they colour the landscapes from coast to forest and city to outback. this tour combines this rich natural heritage with the other-worldly carbonate rock formations of the Pinnacles in the Nambung national park.

This walking tour will uncover the geology of some of Perth’s remarkable heritage buildings and landmarks while sampling some of the best food and craft beer that Perth has to offer. This is a one-of-a-kind experience arranged exclusively for the AEGC.

Mine to Mint Tour

The Mine to Mint day tour will take you on a journey to a working gold mine. You will visit the rim of the mine’s giant South Pit to see huge haul trucks transporting their loads and travel through the plant where ore is crushed and copper and gold separated. After lunch and gold panning in the picturesque Boddington town site, your journey continues to The Perth Mint where Western Australia’s golden history comes to life. At The Perth Mint, you will see the Guinness World Records Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin and the second largest natural nugget in existence. Witness the wonder of a traditional gold pour in our original melting house, touch gold bullion worth more than $500,000 and marvel at precious metal coins and medallions being minted before your eyes. This tour is an excellent opportunity to expose your family and friends to geology in action.
